How to test MacBook Air M4 for dead pixels

Use the dead pixel test tool above. The MacBook Air M4 uses a 2560×1664 (13") or 2880×1864 (15") IPS Liquid Retina panel at 224 ppi. Individual pixels are very small — test at maximum brightness in a darkened room.

Disable Night Shift and True Tone during testing: System Settings > Displays > Night Shift (Off). The notch area at the top of the display is not testable — this is expected.

What a dead pixel looks like on MacBook Air M4

Dead pixels on the MacBook Air Liquid Retina display are tiny permanently dark dots. At 224 ppi, a single pixel is ~0.11mm. The IPS panel's wide viewing angle means the defect is equally visible from all viewing positions, unlike older TN panels.

Appledead pixel warranty — what's covered

Apple's standard warranty applies. The MacBook Air M4's IPS LCD panel (not OLED) means dead pixels have a different failure mechanism to OLED. For the full Apple warranty breakdown, see the dead pixel warranty policies by brand.

How to fix a dead pixel on MacBook Air M4

Try the stuck pixel fix tool first for stuck (colour) pixels. For confirmed dead (dark) pixels, Apple repair is the only solution.

FAQ

Is the MacBook Air M4 notch area covered for defects?+
The notch area contains the camera sensor and is not a display region — it cannot have dead pixels. Defects in the surrounding display area near the notch are treated the same as any other display area.
