How to test Acer Nitro 5 for dead pixels
Use the dead pixel test tool above at maximum brightness. Acer Nitro and Predator panels are IPS — test through white, black, red, green, and blue. Dead pixels are easiest to identify on white; stuck pixels (colour) are revealed by cycling through all colours.
Model-specific notes
- Acer Nitro 5 (AN515 / AN517)— 1920×1080 IPS at 144Hz. Pixels are ~0.18mm — relatively large and visible. Disable Acer's built-in Blue Light Shield (Acer Quick Access tray → Blue Light Shield off) before testing.
- Acer Nitro V 15 / 16— 1920×1080 or 1920×1200 IPS at 144Hz. Same test approach as Nitro 5. Check that Windows' Night Light is disabled (Settings → System → Display → Night Light).
- Acer Predator Helios 300 / 16 — 2560×1440 QHD 165Hz or 240Hz on higher-tier models. Smaller pixels (~0.12mm) — scan more slowly. Predator models have an OSD panel toggle; confirm the display is running at native resolution.
Document each defect: photograph the screen on a solid white background and note the pixel location precisely. Acer's warranty claim form requires a defect description and photos.
What a dead pixel looks like on Acer Nitro 5
Dead pixels on Acer IPS panels appear as fixed dots that don't change with screen content:
- Dead pixel — Permanently black dot, visible on any background including white. No response to brightness changes or screen updates.
- Stuck pixel — Fixed coloured dot (red, green, or blue). More common than dead pixels on IPS panels. Can sometimes be resolved with the fix tool; dead pixels cannot.
Backlight bleed (diffuse glow at screen corners or edges) is a separate issue from pixel defects and has its own threshold under warranty. A stuck or dead pixel is a discrete, sharp dot — not a diffuse glow.
Acerdead pixel warranty — what's covered
Acer's 1-year limited warranty covers display manufacturing defects under ISO 13406-2 Class II. This standard formally permits a small number of pixel defects before repair is required — similar to HP and Lenovo's approach. A single dead pixel in isolation may technically fall within Acer's tolerance.
- Acer's warranty support is handled via acersupport.com — you'll need to register the product first, then open a warranty ticket.
- Acer may arrange a mail-in repair or, for gaming models (Predator), a depot service. They do not typically offer in-person service outside of authorised repair centres.
- Predator Care (extended warranty available on Predator models) improves coverage and response time. Predator Care holders receive priority handling for display defect claims.
- If you purchased from a retailer within the return window, a direct return is faster and more reliable than Acer's warranty process for a borderline single-pixel defect.
How to fix a dead pixel on Acer Nitro 5
For stuck pixels on Acer IPS panels (Nitro 5, Nitro V, Predator Helios IPS), try the stuck pixel fix tool — rapid colour cycling can resolve an IPS stuck sub-pixel in 10–15 minutes at full brightness. This works on stuck (coloured) pixels; it has no effect on confirmed dead (dark) pixels.
If the pixel remains after two cycles of the fix tool, it is a confirmed dead pixel. Contact Acer support at acersupport.com. If you're within the retailer return window, a direct return or exchange is the faster path.
